interesting LO/SPR : signification delays encountered when sending mass email with nested groups

Error description:

Mass emailing are emailed out to to all approx 15000 users. The groups are nested. Customer sends to “NMGroup1″ that has 10 nested groups which have has about 2500 users in different sub groups. When the user hits SEND, the workstaion becomes  unrepsponsive for up to 4 hours.

Steps to Reproduce:

This is reproducible from other workstations.

The groups involved are ALL on the server

  • Recent contacts are disabled
  • if email is sent to to smaller groups it gets sent  within 20 minutes.
  • Added the following debugto Notes.in and have attached the console.log and log.log file

    console_log_enabled=1
    debug_mailer=1
    debug_namelookup=1

Local fix:

Reduce the size of large groups ;

Problem summary:

This APAR is closed as FIN. We have deferred the fix to a future release.

APAR: iNotes user can not send a mail with an attachment file when the
size of database is over quota.

Error description:

iNotes user can not send a mail with an attachment file when the size of database is over quota.

Domino administrator adds the following parameter to notes.ini.

iNotes_wa_Ignore_Quota=1

However, following error message was displayed when iNotes user sent a mail with an attachment file.

“Unable to write to database because database would exceed its disk quota.”.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Domino administrator add iNotes_wa_Ignore_Quota=1 parameter to notes.ini.
  2. Set shorter database quota than current size in the DWA mail database (If the size of your mail database is 20MB, set 25MB in database quota).
  3. Set “Deliver anyway (don’t obey quotas)” in server configuration document – [Router/SMTP] – [Restriction and Controls] – [Delivery controls] – [over quota enforcement].
  4.  Open iNotes and log in.
  5. Set “Don’t keep a copy” in iNotes Preferences – [Mail] – [General] – [Save sent mail], and save a preference.
  6. Create new mail and attach a attachment file.
  7. Send a mail.

Result: Following error message was displayed.

“Unable to write to database because database would exceed its disk quota.”

This issue does not occur by Domino 8.5.3 for English edition.

I was able to send a mail with an attachment file by iNotes 8.5.3 for English Edition.

Security Bulletin: IBM Lotus Notes & Domino affected by vulnerabilities in IBM JRE (CVE-2012-4820, CVE-2012-4821, CVE-2012-4822, CVE-2012-4823)

Abstract:

IBM Lotus Notes and IBM Lotus Domino are vulnerable to four Java exploits where malicious agents, applets, or XPages applications can escalate privileges. These vulnerabilities are in the IBM Java SDK.

Content:

For information about the impact of this vulnerability on other affected IBM products, refer to this post on the Product Security Incident Reporting Team (PSIRT) blog.

VULNERABILITY DETAILS:
CVE IDs: CVE-2012-4820, CVE-2012-4821, CVE-2012-4822, CVE-2012-4823

Description:

There are a number of vulnerabilities in the IBM Java SDK versions that affect various components (ORB, XML and JMX). The vulnerabilities allow code running under a security manager to escalate its privileges by modifying or removing the security manager. Some of the issues need to be combined in sequence to achieve an exploit.

An attacker could persuade a user into running Java code from an untrusted, malicious source resulting in privilege escalation. The attacker must convince the Notes user to click on a malicious Notes:// URL which, in turn, runs a Java agent, applet or XPages application. The attack against the Domino server can be exploited only by an authenticated user with the rights to run LotusScript or Java agents on the server.

Affected Plattform: Lotus Notes 8.0.X, 8.5, 8.5.X, 8.5.3 FP3

Fix : 8.5.3 FP3 or security patch

iNotes not working as expected with Firefox 15 and later

 Problem:

Updates made to the Firefox browser in Firefox 15 and later may result in iNotes no longer working as expected. For example, mail will not send when pressing the Send button after composing a mail message.

Content:

Updates made to Firefox, starting in Firefox 15, result in iNotes no longer working as expected. Firefox has removed support for signed scripts starting with Firefox 15, and several iNotes features use signed scripts. Because signed scripts no longer execute, several features in iNotes that use signed scripts no longer work.

  • URLs in text are not automatically converted into hotlinks in a message when mail, calendar events, or to do’s are sent or saved
  • The failure of the URL conversion to complete results in the Send and Save action buttons in mail, calendar events, or to do’s not working. None of these documents can be sent or saved.
  • Attachments cannot be added to mail messages

Workaround:

On Domino 8.5.3 and later, the use of signed scripts in Firefox by iNotes can be disabled at the server with a notes.ini setting.
After this setting is applied, attachments will use the older DHTML user interface, but will work. Mail, calendar events, and to do’s will send and save, but URLs will not be automatically converted into URL hotlinks.
(However, many mail clients convert URLs into hotlinks when mail is received, so the absence of this conversion by iNotes may not be noticeable.)

To disable signed scripts in Firefox on a Domino 8.5.3 or later server:

Notes.ini:  “iNotes_WA_FirefoxSignedScript=0″
restart the HTTP task

Step by Step:

Server console commands:
set config iNotes_WA_FirefoxSignedScript=0
restart task http

panagenda MarvelClient – Neuer Laufzeit-Typ Background

Mit DLL Version 3.0 steht ein neuer Laufzeit-Typ für folgende Aktionen:

  • Agenten starten (Objekte)
  • Programm starten (Objekte)
  • Eclipse Konfig setzen (Eclipse)
  • Eclipse installieren /deinstallieren (Eclipse)

bg_thread_interval=Millisekunden (Defaultwert 3 600 000 = 60 Minuten)
bg_thread_firstinterval=Millisekunden (Defaultwert= bg_thread_interval)

Voraussetzung:

  • aktuelles Design der Config Datenbank
  • DLL Version 3.0

Beispiel: Eclipse Konfiguration

Fazit:

panagenda MarvelClient – New runtyp Background

Added a new runtype “background” for the following actions:

  • Run Agent (Objects)
  • Run Program (Objects)
  • Eclipse Config (Eclipse)
  • Eclipse Plugin Install/Uninstall (Eclipse)
  • notes.ini  & Variables Management (Objects)

This allows to e.g. change notes.ini settings or run agents or programs or deploy/undeploy plugins whilst clients are up and running “within the next hour” (or whatever the background interval is set to).

description:

By default, this new runtype runs every 60 minutes after client startup.
The runtype “background – init” runs immediately after “afterlogin”

customizing:

To change the default interval, set mc Variables:

bg_thread_interval=number of milli seconds; (default=3600000)
bg_thread_firstinterval=number of milli seconds (default=bg_thread_interval)

required

  • current design of config Database
  • DLL 3.0
